Red Glass Turkeys. Sure.
I had, possibly, the most surreal day at work, EVER. But I can't talk about it. I even asked Laura if she thought I could blog about the totally whack day we had and upon some reflection she said "You can talk about the turkeys." So I will talk about the turkeys.
The holiday season is a time to give meaningful gifts, selected with care and love, for those dear to you. It is also the time of year for the office holiday gift grab. There are varying ways of getting the gifts out there, some involve picking a name, others involve random gifts and strategic stealing. One of the two office parties I'm attending this year (yay cross-reporting) went with the latter strategy. By the end of the 61 some presents and chances to steal presents I ended up with a wonderful set of Milk-based beauty products. There was one person left to select and I was pretty sure that I was heading home with a random gift that suited my interests very nicely.
That one person, elected to steal the set from me, and apparently, my look of dismay was, as Laura put it, "priceless." First, I don't lose well and secondly, I was left with a set of chocolates that I am basically allergic to. Something I commented on in a less than ladylike tone. I'd considered myself pretty lucky to have come away from the whole stealing thing without any chocolate or wine, two things that often include allergens for me. And then I was TOTALLY thwarted.
And I was desperate. What was I going to do with these chocolates. Then I noticed that a colleague sitting across from me had fared really poorly in the game as well, as she was saddled with the following.

Yup. Williams Sonoma, red, glass, turkey shaped candle holders. I'll admit, I have no practical use for the turkeys. I don't have a dining room, let alone a dining room table to put the little red gobblers on. No, there was no way I could use them as intended by the manufacturer. These turkeys had a higher purpose.
That purpose is to amuse me.
I only had them in my office for two hours today, but in that time (between phone calls, e-mail and ALL KINDS work) I had arranged the four turkeys in stage positions from Hamlet, Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet and with the help of a crown made by Laura, coronated a King of the Turkeys and made the others turkeys in waiting.
And that was just during the first day. What adventures await me and my turkeys I cannot say, but I know that we have a bright future ahead of us. And thank you to whomever purchased this totally absurd holiday present. It's already been well worth it in entertainment value.

I have to admit, to my chagrin, that I'm liking those turkeys more and more as I think about them. How embarassing...
